Being surrounded at the start,by unfriendly type's.What doe's this nation need to do in order , to not only survive , but thrive? How are these objectives met?
I went after (and took) Eiglophians off the bat to tie-in my northern frontier, then went after Pictland and Border Kingdom, then Nemedia. I drew Khitai as my kingdom in the Ice Age and took two of their home provinces. Also took two from Stygia, 'cause the guy was being a jerk. I finished 2nd behind an unimpressive Corinthia. I even took Numalia from CORI on the last turn.

I wrote a spotlight on this kingdom and kicked major, major ass with it. I'm telling you, it's a formula for sucess: START IN PICTLAND EACH AND EVERY M.F.'ING TIME! You lose few troops, maintain that fragile initial troop base and scream into Sup/Sup quicker than snot.
You could win more times than not with Cimmeria by starting with this route. They have enough diplomacy to peace Aquilonia and Asgard is an easy ally.
I would also recommend taking out all the barbarians, as Old Warriors used to preach (not all of his advice was worthless) as you will become an easy, tempting target for any barbarian brother who is also doing well (Victory progress seems easy for the barbarians) and will wipe the floor with you in the ice age to pull in the win.
Good luck with them, you still need skill, but Cimmeria can become a beast if managed properly. The biggest mistake made is usually invading Aquilonia too early.
Was anyone playing in your game Tzu?? i don't think i've ever seen so much npk territory at the end of a game.

probably a non-organized game. game isnt full when it starts, lots of early drops, and players drop easily once they lose a battle or province or two.

I have heard he had a easy time with his conquests, in that particular game. What he did will never happen in a organized game.
Oh boy. You guys ever played a game that wasn't an ORG? Did you ever accomplish something like this in that game?
Also, every single kingdom around me was played and you can read about it in detail in the 774 game forum. Though I can't do anything about the skill level of the players, I can make bad players look bad.
There was the same amount of players in this game as any other, but it was a "friends" game (as all are, but there was a lot of groups of friends in this one) and I think a lot of interest was lost in the game as their friends were defeated.
Really though, after the 2nd warset, this one was fucking over anyways. Wouldn't have mattered after that point as I was too big to be stopped then anyways.
Say what you will, you can say the same thing about Zebhu's 100 province Zamora, just cause it wasn't an ORG. Sure these things don't happen in them, but it doesn't make it any less relevant. Wipe out all the HW records not set in ORG's if you want to have that the status quo, or have only T-Shirts issued from them. Another problem you'll face though is the variety in game formats. Most are "team" games now, so no "individual" win can even be achieved in those games.
I tore shit up in this one, and I'm telling you my format works. Invade Pictland first and you'll be set up to do this shit more times than not.

Hey. The bottom line is a WIN IS A WIN. No one can take that away from you, and I am not trying to diminish your achievements. I have come close many times, but have never crossed the finish line. Hats off to you.
More to the point is it's not my only win. About to rake in my 3rd in a couple turns.

I have a very good chance of finishing 1st very shortly, as well. Playing Cimmeria.
