Troops
#1
There has never been much discussion of troops.  Oh, we have all seen what it says in the Rulebook, but what does that really mean?  It has been discussed that Heavy>Medium>Light but, again, we have not covered any nuances in that.

Then there are the traits listed for each troop type.  What does it mean to be have Good Missile Combat Ability?  What does Movement rate affect?

Each Troop type is rated for:
Troop Category
Missile Combat Ability
Melee Combat Ability
Morale
Movement Rate
Cost

So how are those rated and what are the ratings?

Troop category is listed in the back of the Rulebook, so you know what they are.  We will cover some of what affect they have later.

Missile, Melee and Morale are all listed in a standard Hyborian War Superior - Excellent - Good - Adequate - Poor - None system.  Movement rate is a number.

Missile and Melee are both affected by the Heavy > Medium > Light, so a Light unit firing at a Heavy unit may fire more arrows (Excellent Missile) but inflict fewer losses (Heavy take less damage from light). It seems to run at about a 4 to 2 to 1.

An Archer unit (Those marked with an A), like a Light Infantry Archer (LIA) will, given a space opening, fire arrows first.  Non-archers tend to charge.  HI and MC get a small bonus for charging.  HC gets a much bigger one.  That charge is why there are often large losses at the first impact, and then peters away into a few at a time.
